have to accommodate - and 'leaders' at that - before the supporters generally begin to suspect that something doesn't smell right...?
I give qualified support to XR - qualified for reasons offered in that thread below about Dmitry Orlov and Greta. But if they're really going to indulge in being so unsavvily-naive as to assist - objectively speaking - their own cooption into astroturfing for gangster capitalists on the - 'green' - make, then they're really being part of the problem rather than spearheading effective solutions.
Still holding a watching brief.
The only thing that really matters is: does XR - in reality - create a net good towards active, widescale, realistic efforts to head off the Synergising Global Crises (as far as it's really within human competence to affect these eco-geophysical processes)?
If the net balance is good, then I'm right behind them, including poor misused Greta. But only on that condition: does it turn out in the event to be a net good.
However, the movement needs to avoid the impression of being bourgeois nimbies, obsessing about arguable theory, whilst around them millions of plebs are struggling just to stay afloat, their anger getting ignored by better off people in the grip - apparently, to the plebs - of a Chicken Little apocalypse-panic. (One of so many that have come and gone, unrealised.)
That episode of getting pulled off the train roofs by an angry crowd of plebs underlines the naivety of such an approach. Class-justice and Earth defending just have to get seamlessly blended together in XR's thinking, if it's to have any chance of triggering a truly worldwide mass movement, plebs and all, which can actually hope to get going the largescale remediation work that the world needs so urgently. Somehow, Stenutz - especially given the CV which Ian posts above - doesn't convince as such a bone-deep-genuine fighter for such justice; particularly not with that great long screed of wholly unsubstantiated slurs against Evo and his supporters. No Che or Fidel, he...
Yes we should put out the fire in the house, as a crash priority (particularly the rooms marked 'Amazonia' and 'Australia'). But part of that has to include rescuing the poor buggers who are trapped in the cellar and getting smoked to death. Do that, and you'd have a hoard of willing fire-fighters behind you.
