... not that there's nothing in what you say, or that many indigenous and leftists don't see it that way in South America. One of Eduardo Galeano's continuing meme's what the inherent untrustworthiness of the Yanquis / N. Americans / Anglos. The other side of that is a tendency to hubris, great self-confidence, and sectarianism, on ethnic lines, in the American (Latin) left and indigenous movement. Indigenous in Bolivia (part of the indignous majority) have been co-opted over the last few years by environmentalists in the pay of the Empire - at times. Similar in Paraguay. There is no future or hope on those continents if this ethnic sectarianism is the final decider of what's good, what's bad. Besides which even in Bolivia a large proportion have some Spanish "blood". Are they to hate that part of themselves? - what nonsense. Evo's challenge and strategy has been uniting the country geographically in the face of manufactured separatism in the more mestizo east - Santa Cruz. That was a big struggle and he succeeded in that. Evo came from a popular indigenous coca-growers - campesino - movement which became massive. There's no comparison with the soldier Chavez there. He didn't have the "ins" - I'm guessing. But perhaps you and Shyaku know more.
