Agree of course on Evo, but not on Erdo... Archived Message

Evo's fault was a bit like Carrie Lamb in HK, offering to make reasonable concessions only to have them rejected, because not realising that the "Opposition" had no desire to follow legitimate process and was non-agreement capable - like the overlords. Bashar made a similar mistake, initially, though his concessions and amnesty for genuine Syrian 'rebels' has been hugely successful. Erdogan is a different matter though. His huge support now which is coming from both sides is the result of clever politics and press censorship/control, whereby Turks believe some kind of nonsense. I've never been convinced that Erdogan himself didn't have a part in the 'coup', because it played a major part in enabling his routing and imprisonment of all the opposition, in academic, press and military. Purges. Friend Jeremy Salt who lives still in Turkey sees Erdo as a new Hitler, but daren't say so, even in writing and even to friends; the comparison with Stalin might also be apt. Putin has been very smart in dealing with the man, you could say manipulating... in a good way!
