I'm watching "His Dark Materials" (I know the HG story inside out and object to the poor scheduling decision to screen two such similar productions back-to-back on a Sunday), one of my friends, who I've worked with for years, loves Pullman so I'm giving his stuff a chance, glad to now, Brenda (my friend), told me about the "alethiometer" (if you haven't seen the programme or read the book this won't mean a thing), .."HDM" felt relevant and contemporary when so much (being deliberately obfuscatory and dishonest), is not...I was "right there with it" not just as a story but also as social commentary...I'm interested to see how it all plays out...
