"Our model predicts the global population won't reach 11.2 billion by the end of the century, but will reach 9 billion". Woo-hoo! Break out the condoms. That is NOT an empty planet, that is NOT population decline, that is ONLY an assertion not a model, that is NOT a statement on what is sustainable. It is meticulously-timed pure bullshit. Use of non-regenerable resources INTEGRATES over time. If you have a resource with 100 units remaining on planet earth, and only 2 units gets recycled per year, and a population of 11 billion would use, say, 25 units PER YEAR, you don't solve the problem even by instantaneously halving the population. Its going to run out in the near future, unless population is slashed quite rapidly to levels at which its depletion is almost matched to its regeneration. We are as good as our most limiting resource. |
