Ever heard of the expression "the exception that proves the rule"? OK that itself is a fuzzy expression, but then an ethnosocial group, an ethnos is fuzzy phenomenon: an entity that's dynamic, a process. Also I'm interested to know, who among these worthy Israeli groups (I'm not being facecious!) actually supports the right of return - ie: the end of Israel in it's current ethnic identity? Very few to none, I'm guessing, correct me if I'm wrong. It's a big problem if you don't want to interrogate the foundations of the group and their varying place in different societies - as Gilad A. does, taking a lot of flak for it. It's a kind of leftie allergy, this fear of racism, which is at root racist, because what you interrogate when looking at the Jews and Judaism is not a race but a people bound by a historical myths and truths, family ties, social relations, to greater or lesser degrees. I think the allergy comes from a moral obsession which is like a blindfold with "guilty / not-guilty" or "good stuff / bad stuff" written on the inside. Probably rooted in Protestantism, mainly. There you are, lots of flesh out there, probably just pissing in the wind on these pages anyway. |
