"Director at the Good Law Project and Barrister at Devereux Law, Jo Maugham QC has confirmed that he will be taking advice on legal action if the BBC dismisses his latest complaint. The Pro-remain barrister has expressed his outrage at the BBC’s reporting standards and comments made by their journalists on social media. Citing an article recently published by the Express where Laura Kuenssberg, the BBC Political editor speculated that in the future, people will look back and question why some remainers tried to stop/undo Brexit. Mr Maugham claimed that this does not align with BBC Editorial Guidelines. Kuenssberg said: “From a historical point of view, I think when people look back at this period and they examine the extent of the Labour defeat. “I think people will look back and think, ‘hang on – people voted for something in 2016 and then lots of people in the political establishment in Westminster spent three years trying to undo that. What?’ “People thought we would be out the next day. Politicians on both sides, including the then-Prime Minister David Cameron stood on platforms and said if you vote this way, it will happen. They said there was no going back, and that this wasn’t a vote that you can have a second opinion on.” He confirmed that he complained to the BBC: “You can read paragraph 4.3.11 of the Editorial Guidelines here. I have used the BBC’s complaints procedure and will report back if I get a substantive response.” But also added he would look at “legal remedies” if the complaint is dismissed by the broadcaster. In light of the complaint, the BBC Director-General, Lord Hall has dismissed claims of bias and insisted that the BBC is trusted. He said: ” “Around 27 million people in the UK came to the BBC website to find out about the election results. It was a reminder of the trust people place in the BBC. “Yes, of course we faced some criticism for our election coverage. That is to be expected as the national broadcaster. Where we can and need to improve we will. But the fact criticism came from all sides of the political divide shows to me that we were doing our job without fear or favour.” Do you think the BBC is impartial? Do they have a bias for one political side and not the other? Let us know what you think!" https://politicaluk.co.uk/2019/12/bbc-told-legal-action-will-be-taken-against-them-over-political-reporting/
