odd occasions when I get an appointment at my local district hospital, I cycle over. Even with a bus pass, the journey is too cumbersomely inconvenient to contemplate; and I don't like to ask amongst my circle of car-keeping friends, for them to drive me over, wait however long it takes, somewhere outside the car-park, then drive me back. And when I enquire, I'm apparently "not eligible" for hospital transport. Round trip of 18 miles... There's a certain Loki-like amusement in being able to cycle right up to the entrance, lock my bike, and go to the appointment without giving the parking-racket any cash at all!
