Cheers Rhisiart and a Happy New Year. The Gaelic name?

I hardly ever go to the hospital these days, thank goodness, but I owe my life to the NHS (for whom I worked) when they treated my thyroid cancer in 2014 using surgery and radiotherapy. The surgery was straightforward except that a laryngeal nerve went with the tumour so that one vocal cord is now paralysed closed affecting my speech and breathing. I had a week on the ward and see the surgeon annually.

Some time after the surgery, after healing, the radiotherapy was administered every weekday for six weeks. It was quite scary to see the head of the large LINAC machine circling round you when your head is held in a mask clipped to the table. All the radiographers who prepare you had left the room of course. They watched on a screen outside the lead lined room.

I paid £3 per visit so the parking crowd had over £100 from me! I see that the charge per visit is now £4.

On one occasion afterwards when I had choked and was developing stridor, I drove down to A&E (five or so minutes away by car) and had left home in a hurry without a purse or bag. I knew I couldn't wait for the ambulance. I was seen immediately and the obstruction was removed. Later on I received a penalty parking ticket for £70 (together with a photo of my car entering and leaving the car park) from the rogues who run the car park and after a lot of toing and froing, they cancelled it.

I bless and praise the NHS whenever I can.
