Times of civil disorder, clearly; but leading to what? You know my bet, I daresay: we then get scarcity-socialism, but only if we insist; and if we don't insist we get by default what's already being constructed here, maybe in the whole of Britain, certainly in little England: neo-feudalism. It's still up to us, the plebs, to decide which way it goes - if enough of us are pressed enough by worsening times to wake up, stand up, and organise our prole phalanxes. That's what the next passage of history in Britain is going to decide now. I wonder whether it will happen through a newly-recaptured Labour party, where the rank-and-file, mildly socialist majority in the membership evict the B'Liarite minority in the PLP to join the tories or the Libdums; or whether the new Peassnts' Revolt will have to come through a new organisation. Maybe this latest new party of George G will finally take off and recruit a mass membership, overtly dedicated as it is to some serious socialism. We'll see, I guess... But ultimately, what can't fail to explode, will explode. |
