Try a bike, John. So much less expensive to run as it gets the car-albatross off your neck at Archived Message

once; and so health-giving. People are starting to talk about me now: that old guy who still cycles into town over the ridge! And hauls back great carrier-loads of shopping with him. As at least two have said to me personally: 'I don't know how you do it, at your age!' Easy: I don't keep a car. No car, no temptation. And for longer distances, I still have my public transport travel pass - and I can schlep the bike with me at that. PS: What do you think about Dmitry Orlov's recent remark that global dimming - from all the airborne particulates - is actually an interesting counter to the present AGW temperature increases? You seem to underscore that reality in this post of yours, where you describe the lessening of the Sun's heat by the smog. OTOH, he also floats the idea that, since we're now rather overdue for the next Ice Age, according to the Milanković Cycle, we may need to increase - sic! - the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, just to stave off the next glaciation for a bit longer. Complicated subject, where too much doctrinal certainty seems somewhat unwarranted. Open-minded scepticsm, rules, OK! And a great New Year to you and all in Aotearoa!! Love this young hero's wonderful first-feat. Round the world on a unicycle: £300-grand raised for his favoured 'School-in-a-bag' charity:
