These presenters use phrases such as 'piling in' and 'pumping up', all designed to create alarm and fear in the populace. The Met Office used to be an arm of the MoD and was based at Bracknell. Then it was commercialized or 'privatised' in the 90s and now operates out of Exeter under the aegis of Ms Leadsom of the Business and Energy Dept. They sell its services. They boast of 'another multi million pound operational centre' in Aberdeen.
