... urging Rebecca Long-Bailey not to press the nuclear button etc. At least Richard Burgon hasn't signed up to 10 Commandments.

No doubt, according to Keith's calculations, the abstainers have won

Over the last 48 hours, we have balloted all 1,687 supporters of the Labour Left Alliance on who the LLA should officially support in the Labour leadership elections. These are the results (the turnout was 31,3%):

    Candidates for Labour leader
    Rebecca Long-Bailey: 81.4% (438 votes)
    Lisa Nandy: 0.56% (3 votes)
    Jess Phillips: 0% (0 votes)
    Keir Starmer: 1.49% (8 votes)
    Emily Thornberry: 0.56% (3 votes)
None of the above: 15.99% (86 votes)
    Total: 538 votes

    Candidates for Labour deputy leader
    Rosena Allin-Khan: 0.19% (1 vote)
    Richard Burgon: 85.1% (457 votes)
    Dawn Butler: 6.52% (35 votes)
    Ian Murray: 0% (0 votes)
    Angela Rayner: 8.01% (43 votes)
None of the above: 0.19% (1 vote)
    Total: 537 votes

The LLA organising group, made up of representatives from all affiliated local and national organisations, therefore recommends critical support for Rebecca Long-Bailey as leader of the Labour Party. We do have political disagreements with her (pressing the nuclear button, calling for the expulsion of Chris Williamson, supporting the Board of Deputies' 10 Pledges), but we still believe she is the most left-wing candidate on the ballot paper. We are more than happy to support Richard Burgon for deputy leader of the Labour Party.

All candidates need to secure nominations from 5% of CLPs (that’s 33) or from 5% of affiliated organisations in order to be included in the final ballot. Nomination meetings can take place between January 15 and February 15 (in addition to normal CLP meetings).

We will campaign hard to stop the BoD’s 10 Pledges from being adopted by the Labour Party – not only is this an outrageous political interference by a pro-Tory organisation, it would make the witch-hunt against the left in the party hugely worse.

LLA supports this open letter to Rebecca Long-Bailey, urging her to distance herself from the 10 Pledges. The letter has also been signed by Alexei Sayle, Jackie Walker, Moshe Machover, Mike Cushman, Leah Levane and a number of Labour Party councilors (and by over 2,500 people in less than 24 hours).

We call on all socialists, anti-imperialists and Corbyn supporters to stay actively involved in the Labour Party and join us in this fight against the 10 Pledges, the ongoing witch-hunt against the left in the Labour movement and campaign with us for the democratic transformation of our party. Please make sure to come along to our launch conference on February 22 in Sheffield (more details below).
