Oddly enough I'm almost more frustrated that they've sided with XR over this, as it will make the process that much slower before enough people realise that the govt is never going to do anything serious about this issue, and the police are never going to do anything other than crack down on those desperately trying to protect the living world. As it is we're in danger of the PTB stringing us along for years, maybe offering a few sops here and there but not getting anywhere near the wholesale changes that are needed. Worse, as you point out they could use the crisis as an opportunity for further entrenching their power via a new spate of 'green growth' (sic). Even rewilding and afforestation could end up with negative secondary effects, eg: if it results in expansion of intensive agriculture overseas, or if the 'off-sets' it provides enables yet more CO2 emissions from industries. Not to mention all the farmers put out of business... But yes, I'll try to get those slugs in all the same! Even if the opposition is hobbled and compromised, that's better than no opposition at all, I guess. Hopefully you're right about the ice cracking (metaphorically!), but yes it's frustrating how slow it is, and how much work remains to do to sharpen the analysis of naive lite-greenies. cheers, I
