Does anyone know if this thesis of Patrick Moore's has been effectively rebutted? -Archived Message

Or is he perhaps onto something. What he's saying is directly in opposition to the current orthodoxy. There are other apparently credible - and appropriately-qualified - people who are saying the same things. I do see that it could be just one of the well-worn denialists' spiels. But - is there any truth in it?
I'm minded to ask this because Dmitry Orlov has just published an 8,000 word essay that he's been working on for some time - with others - which is saying things that chime well with Patrick's assertions. (Sorry, I can't give a link yet, because he's released it just to his subscribers at the moment. I expect it will get general release soon.) If there's any soundness in these arguments, well - they can't just be brushed away, can they? Apart from anything else, they could be a considerable panic-reducer - if true...
