massive excess mortality now falling during lockdown suggests something other than lockdown is killing people. Doctor's aren't signing death certificates as covid unless they are confident that's the cause. If fifteen people die, over 2 weeks, in a care home of an illness which causes fever, breathlessness and a dry paroxysmal cough when that might normally be the number in a year it's quite unlikely that the diagnosis is something else. I'm not saying that's how tye deaths are reported because I know my wife is not recording corona where no tests have been done. I'm just pointing out that it's very unlikely that there is a large overcount. Bayes theorem in action. As with most of the Off Guardians ouvre it's missing the wood from the trees. Yesterday they were claiming that PCR which has been the standard for identifying respiratory viruses for almost two decades is so flawed it's worthless. It's easy to make any shit up. like the bit about needing to get an examiner to okay the certification - a medical examiner system is being set up but is at the moment non statutory. I've been signing death certificates for the past 25 years without needing to seek permission. I also think I'm competent to call corona, corona without a positive viral swab. When I get time I'll explain the differences between a corona patient and a usual viral pneumonia patient which allow a confident clinicao diagnosis. The bit about it being indistinguishable from any other viral illness maybe true for mild cases but is sure as hell isn't for the ones that are dying. cheers, dan
