If you haven't read M John Harrison's 'Light' i'd definitley recommend that - amazing book. Also, Michael Marshall Smith's 'Only Forward' - another must read for me. Adam Roberts - i recommend anything by Adam Roberts. For his more political ones: 'By light alone', 'Salt', 'New Model Army','Yellow Blue Tibia', Gradisil' - for just great sci fi: 'Stone' 'The Snow', 'Jack Glass' [sort of crime fiction]. Any of them i found brilliant, but By light alone and Stone are my favourites. Peter Watts 'Blindsight' - great sci fi. As said above, Ken Macleod's Fall revolution series for some commie-themed sci-fi. But also, his latest 'Corporation Wars' series is quite political too, but just great sci fi. I'll echo Sashmi's Hannu Rajaniemi - properly mindbending sci fi For a slightly more crime-fiction/sci fi mash up - i really enjoyed Tom Sweterlitsch 'The Gone World'. For more new space opera type stuff (eg iain banks/alaister reynolds), Ann Leckie's Ancillary series is a good read (Ancillary Justice is the first) For epic sci-fi Adrian Tchaikovsky's 'Children of Time' is great; His shorter 'Dogs of War' is good too (sort of military themed sci-fi, but still excellent) For a more tech-thriller tyope book I enjoyed Ramez Naams 'Nexus' (i could go on)
