Yes SBS was always the alternative channel - Archived Message

which we all watched for its avant-garde films and current affairs programs with a left slant, when there was such a thing.
Then came SBS 2, which had mostly foreign news bulletins in the day and films at night, but with ads. Since VICELAND took over SBS 2 there are rarely any decent films on SBS1, but now we have a new channel of "world movies" for them.

What strikes me about the SBS agenda however is their English language foreign news broadcasts, which include France 24, German DW, PBS America and Al Jazeera every day, in addition to the foreign language versions from the same companies.(the PBS is a foreign language in both cases..)

And once a week, at 3 am, there is 15 - 25 minutes of RT. It's always before the hour, so there is never ANY news. They have a charter, which they proudly wave about, and cite when I complain, as does the ABC.

but for them, balance means content from all the Western media, which is all the same!
