People are actually still getting sick and fecking dying because originally the government line wasn't concerned with saving lives but with making a profit through not having a lockdown and by ignoring deaths. Really simplistic, as if "making a profit" is the only concern with a lockdown. Perhaps, like Trump, Boris was reluctant to destroy the real economy because it means all the other damage it does to society. See Der below about the impact on the poor which also applies to the UK. Also have a look at rippon's recent clip about the behaviour from the police if you want to understand peoples' concern.
