Mortality above 35% in general is shocking and horrible - set against the population that dies in ICU there will be another high number who die after discharge without leaving hospital or who die within a year of discharge. Finally there will be a population left with permanent disability such as a need for renal dialysis or oxygen at home. The mortality stats for 50-59 and 60-69 year olds is for anyone who understands this environment absolutely mindboggling. See also the mortality for people of black and asian decent.
