Here Rhisiart their setts were gassed. Nobody owned up. Some thought the local borough council was responsible as they own the woods which link to the North Downs Way. In the old days, badgers and deer used to come into my garden. There was the odd bit of damage but I did not mind. I used to see badgers dead at the roadside, presumably killed by traffic, but again, were they killed elsewhere and dumped? Now even dead ones are not seen. In the Part 2 Horizon doc on the virus, one of the experts* said that because we humans are destroying the environment, deforestation for instance, in order to feed 7 billion of us, we are disrupting populations of wildlife at our peril. He cited the consumption of wild animals, such as the bats and other wild animals on sale in markets in the Far East as an example but he was not making any political point. * He was Dr Chris van Tulleken. 'He has a diploma in Tropical Medicine from the London School of Tropical Medicine and after more than a decade working in the NHS he is now doing a PhD in Molecular Virology under the supervision of Greg Towers at UCL.'
