The only point I want to make here (the rest I agreed with) was that it's not unique. As far as I am aware till now nationwide lockdown is unprecedented and not supported by scientific evidence. There have until now been various enforcements of isolation on much lower scales which have been used to control disease.
London (largest population in a city in the uk) during lockdown had flights, underground, and movement of people in and out alongside social lockdown. But business (big) as usual. You can make of that what you will, but for me it shows a lack of logic of the premise is to control or stop the spread of disease. If you replace the goal (to a side step of social control or experiment- what can we make people do themselves ?) you end up with a very logical strategy. It reminds me very much of the use of racist ideology in Australia; white people maintaining a hate and poisonous attitude to aborigines with the help of media and govt initiatives (I'm thinking about the 'intervention' as they called it to weed out paedophilia and abuse in remote aboriginal communities. None of which was found to exist but with the approval of the population of oz, were able to easily implement Marshall law in such places, break down the social cohesion of these communities and when the dust settled a lot more land in the same communities long term leased to large mining corps so that the local communities could get the govt funding to remain where they were. All they needed was to place fear and social righteousness in the minds of the white population (inc those who maintained a non racist standpoint) to crumble the already taxed populations of these small communities and get tacit approval instead of condemnation from the wider public.
One argument here has been that we have always had an authoritarian and psychopathic govt, so nothing is different here. I agree with that. It doesn't of course mean we must sit on our hands. This type of social experiment (and I do see it as such, even down to the Thursday 8.00pm zombies clapping at the air because bj told them to) is still on an unprecedented level. I can't recall any time before now we have been banned from associating with others except in military occupations. Surely that is a concern?
And I know you've said more or less that you agree it is a concern, but wanted to reiterate that point.
I'll leave it here with a poor analogy. At the moment I am growing veg. Well, slugs are always an issue, and I don't want my veg garden decimated by them. My solution then might be to build a giant wall around all the garden, roofed, no door or Windows. It will keep all the slugs out, I say. And me too, because I don't want any breaches in it however small. Suddenly the reason for the garden is gone, but I'm happy because I'm controlling the slug damage. Except for all the slugs already in it of course, which are busy eating the garden, destroying plants, multiplying, laying eggs. But I'm on the outside of it, not eating, and I still think my wall is worth the time it took to build. Even though the purpose of the garden is now gone. But it was my idea, my response to my fear I would have no plants to eat because the slugs would get them first.
