No worries John, hope it's worth your time. 'People are tearing each other to bits over covid. Just imagine what will happen when the tsunami of CC really hits.' - Indeed, as this cartoon memorably depicted: Honestly I think we're deluded if we think what people 'want' has anything to do with the direction society takes, if it ever did. The growth compulsion has deep roots in civilisation itself, not just the explosion of capitalism and colonialism over the last couple hundred years, and the sheer inertia behind that isn't going to be altered by a few people waking up to the idea that climate change and biodiversity loss are bad things. We're all locked into this system and are totally dependent on the forms of employment it provides, all tied to unsustainable resource extraction in multiple ways, and if we don't go along with it there are practically no options left apart from homelessness & starvation. Anyway, I still think it's worth putting efforts into XR and the more radical movements as they come along to try and minimise the damage as much as possible. But the only thing that's going to really solve these problems is the final collapse of the global civilised culture in its entirety. But for most environmentalists that's even more inconceivable than allowing climate change to roar ahead unchecked. Go figure... cheers, I
