We got into this mess because all reactionaries can do is react. And that's if you're lucky .. Archived Message

Reactionaries set about systematically deconstructing the ascendancy of creative imaginative thought. Any field you care to think of, in human intellectual endeavor had a revolution in the 1960s. There was a before and an after. It was an explosive revolution in human consciousness. It was a threat. It was stamped out. The rise of the reactionary started from around 1970 onwards, the Louis Powell memo. It was not a respite from breathtaking change, it was a plodding, lumbering reversal disguised as just a breather. "The arc of history is towards progress" they said. Clinton quoted it. The magnitude was far greater though. The reactionary mind has no imagination, it can only react, and that is if you are lucky. If you are less lucky they say "who could have possibly predicted?" "Anyone who says they could have predicted it is lying" and "it came out of "clear blue sky". They call it a "black swan" (they love that phrase). Or "act of god". And people conditioned to not think creatively, by decades of a reactionary, complacent media readily believe this to be the case. And it works as an excuse, and then they minimize "Oh don't be scared" and "there is nothing we could possibly have done" (don't look at China) Even when it was happening it wasn't happening (Pinter). So now they have f*ucked it all up for everyone, even the beloved economy is screwed with the virus worse, now, economically, than with the lockdown was. And China is on a 4.9% growth trajectory, and unfortunately learning mandarin takes time. That's the short version :-) - Take care, Shyaku
