    Sorry I appear to have missed something here: where are the above excerpts from? why are they here and what have they to do with the above?

    btw. I'm not saying that there is no valid connection between say, a certain inherited Presbyterian rigidity and sense of righteousness and the present political situation in Scotland, which is why I assume they have been posted here, but we're talking more psychology than religion.

    Hardly anybody goes to church: only about one in sixteen are members of the established church and Scotland is probably one of the least Christian nominally Christian countries in the world. Most people describe themselves as "non religious".
