"some row about a prof being a TERF" -A weird form of abuse disguised as an acronym. I picked up on a trans friend clearly negatively using it to describe someone in the public sphere: The conversation went something like this: Me: So... whats a "Terf"? Her: A trans-exclusionary radical feminist. Me: ...and that's bad because? Her: They dont believe trans men are women... Me: Well they aren't in the biological sense. I have no problem treating you as a woman because that's how to chose to appear but "gender" theory has as much credibility to me as astrological theory: in fact astrology doesn't let you change what you are identified as at birth, so gender theory actually has even less if that were possible. So...does that make me a "Terf" too? Her: silence... change subject. -The term hasn't come up in conversation since, thankfully.
