Everything depends on what the Russians have got in the bag for this winter. The US could have predicted that the use of a militia to slow the Allied advance would allow them to train (barely) a new force to exploit Allied overstretch and to predict that Allied casualty conservation (cf. the British Army late 1942 to 1945) would induce the Allied to give ground rather than risk encirclement or mass casualties but would also expose the Ukronazis to Allied firepower as they moved into the open. I think that the evacuation of Kherson makes military sense but only in the context of something much more ambitious when the Russian mobilisation matures. Concomitant with this is the US overture to the Russians which has recently emerged. The Seppoes want to fabricate a "victory" against Russia while they can, because the advantage will tilt ever more in Russian/Allied favour when the ground hardens.
