"...trying to out-virtue each other..." Yea...doesn't say much for their own comedy potential. One wonders how they ever find a punchline avoiding all that "mansplaining" " "toxic masculinity" and those " recycled violent patriarchal tropes..." But what really gets me is the astonishing audacity of this: "...the things that got Hicks wound up: advertising, marketing, capitalism, and how they captured and sullied all things good. A generation later, advertising is the air we breathe, our selves are our product. It’s harder – for comedians and everyone else – to imagine how life could ever be otherwise." -Like its just so passé to criticise the manipulative system that we live in...because we sophisticated moderns are all just so comfortable with it now...how can it be bad? phwwwwww....
