The author, Alexander Baunov, is a typical 5th column Yeltsin era liberal, who was sucking at the tit of NED via Carnegie Moscow Centre. I vaguely remember when that NGO changed the direction somewhat a number of years after Putin came to power (c 2013) and was finally banned by RF in 2022. Unsurprisingly, Baunov left Russia on 24th Feb 2022 for Hungary, then Austria, where he is now based, working in Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. I bet my bottom dollar this is also an NED funded NGO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Baunov https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/3/5/scared-to-stay-why-some-rushed-to-leave-russia-after-war Not sure why a philologist would know much about techie stuff and how the engineering and construction units were organised during SU rush to industrialisation. From that perspective below paragraph is typical of a twisted narrative Baunov has embroidered here, ignoring the historical facts. For example, the makeup of these engineering and construction units that helped to industrialise SU were multinational i.e. they could be Ukrainian, Russian, Kazakh, Georgian and so on. A common lingua franca was Russian. The common ideology was communism. So, to claim that the current RF ideology is to destroy something that Russians built and sending the coded message to Ukraine, is stretching the truth to the breaking point. See extract here: There is also a third factor: the legacy of Soviet industrialisation — dams, power plants, metro systems, railways, factories and so on. When Russian forces destroy Soviet-era infrastructure in Ukraine they convey the following message: you wanted to live without us, then do so without the benefit of everything that we, the Russians, built for you. It is for the same reason, incidentally, that Kazakhstan, one of the centres of industrialisation in the USSR, also feels increasingly vulnerable today. I wonder if Baunov is in the know if NED/CIA is planning another colour revolution in Kazakhstan? Dropping a hint? hehe
