I think his point about Merkel and Macron, are involved in a damage limitation exercise. Chomsky's correct when he states that there is no solid contemporary evidence that Germany set out to deliberately fook the Russians about the Minsk Accords. The problem is that can't say that we wanted and worked for peace in Ukraine, but the Americans, London and the Poles wanted war and Germany and France couldn't stop them. What Washington wants, Washington gets! Just like with Nord Stream 2. The Europeans can't reveal how incredibly weak they are in relation to Washington, even to the extent of being unable to stop them starting a huge war in Europe against the wishes and interests of France and Germany.
