Chomsky's anarchist credentials are clearly showing through here and it makes him sound a bit daft, which I suppose shows he's human and fallible too, just like people who don't have superbrain powers!

Were the Russians really just supposed to sit there watching while NATO built a bigger and bigger army in Ukraine and wait to be attacked? Chomsky, apparently thinks so. He mentioned that it's a crime of aggression to attack another nation, even if you know they are getting ready to attack you in the future.

His stance may be... 'principled' but it's certainly not pratical. If one knows war is coming, strike first. Rather that, than become a principled and dead duck!

He also managed to ignore the awkward problem of what to do about the Russians being killed by the Ukrainians. The terrible years of almost daily bombardments of their villages, towns and cities.

As an anarchist, it's clear that Chomsky isn't particularly enamoured with the state, and the state taking up arms against another state; but he isn't a total pacifist either. I seem to remember him supporting the Kurds when they were fighting the Assad regime in Syria.
