'Modern' and 'Progressive'. It's a symbol of modernity, how see ourselves and probably just as important, how we see others, who don't share our values/attitudes, whether they are individuals, groups or even entire countries. It's part of a cultural war we are engaged in in relation to other 'less advanced' and traditonal cultures. Modern western imperialism on the cultural battlefield, is seen as part of hybrid warfare, that's equally important as what happens on the bloody and real battlefield. We send our bombers and our missiles, but we also send out our ideas too. And they define the enemy as being less civilized and therefore below us as human beings.
