This is a trend that's spread far and wide across the West, especially in Europe. It's gotten steadily worse and worse over the last few... decades. It's because our politics have come to resemble the United States so much, as have our consumption patterns and economies. The triumph of neoliberalism and neoconservatism. The ghastly march of identity and genderism and the abandonment of equality and class. It's strange in a way, there's tremendous emphasis on 'equality' in relation to genderism and identity, 'race', but economic equality has faded away as an ideal or policy, let alone a right or demand. The 'left' unfortunately, has chosen, or been steered up an ideological blind alley, which removes it from dialogue with vast swathes of 'working class' potential supporters, pushing them into the waiting arms of the national conservatives. Very sad and very dangerous. Even in the many countries that have proportional representation, like Scandinavia, one has a system of virtual 'one party' rule around the 'centre' and parties that are really factions of that large ruling party that receives over 90% of the votes, which they squabble over, like it means something. It's all political, rhetorical, theatre. It's odd. Democracy without real choice. It won't end well. They are the eternal natural parties of government. '
