We Need Peace In Ukraine REGISTER NOW
Recently the UCU lecturers union congress passed a resolution calling for peace in Ukraine, which has sparked a backlash and opened up debate within the labour movement.
Following the backlash, Stop the War is inviting all activists and trade unionists to join us to discuss the prospects for peace in Ukraine.
On Tuesday 20 June at 6:30pm we will hear from Stop the War’s Lindsey German, activist and journalist Tariq Ali and Sean Vernell from UCU’s national executive committee.
Stop the War has from the outset called for the withdrawal of Russian troops and an end to the conflict through a negotiated settlement. It is becoming increasingly clear that there will be no military solution and that peace negotiations are the only way the war will end.
As well as coming to the meeting, we urge trade unionists across the movement to propose resolutions to their branches calling for an end to the war, opposing the government’s arming of Ukraine and demanding the government push for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Please find a copy of the UCU resolution here. Stop the War has produced a model motion on defence spending that branches may also use or adapt. Please download a copy from our website to propose to your branch. We are happy to provide speakers for any meeting.
