    I think he's actually a bit touched. Perhaps strain and PTSD exacerbating the problem? I think it is a fact that it has been his troops that have copped the worst of this war, on the Russian side. Something like 20,000 dead and seriously injured at least. Putin's probably perfectly happy to see the ex-cons lying bleeding in the ruins - saves paying them, saves medical costs, saves prison costs. It'll be interesting to see how Putin deals with him.

    Mercouris made the point that this event might knock other countries' confidence in Russian stability and cause some reexamination of their tacit support. But really? Is Iran stable? Is Brazil stable? India? South Africa? I think Putin only has to remind leaders here that a bit of instability is not that rare, and they should be the first to understand this.

    And in regard to the US and the West going on about Russian stability?? US, with a violent near take over of its government? UK, PMs changing with the seasons, or the price of lettuce? Hypocrisy anyone?
