I can see the worries, the problem with this sort of technology is that you can't fully understand what you're doing until you actually do it. But that does apply to quite a number of health related modalities, indeed Dr Jenner didn't know what he was doing when he first vaccinated James Phipps. I don't really know the answer to this one. As pointed out, it is likely you'd need to keep releasing millions of sterile mosquitos every year to achieve any long term effect. One thing, Dengue is not always a benign infection,The incidence of dengue has grown dramatically around the world in recent decades, with cases reported to WHO increased from 505 430 cases in 2000 to 5.2 million in 2019. You are much more at risk if Dengue becomes endemic and you contract a second or subsequent infection.You can get seriously ill and die. It's worth trying to keep Dengue out of a community. Whether this is the best way or not, I don't know. There is a vaccine available in the US for children up to the age of 18 who have had a previous infection and live in an endemic area. It's pretty new,, and I don't know how reliably effective it is.
