If a bit of a soft-soap... "There was no evidence the Russian elite, and indeed regular Russians, wanted the invasion to happen in the first place. That decision was made by Putin and his immediate entourage. But there is still a general unwillingness to see Russia defeated and humiliated in Ukraine." There is no evidence that they understood the threat beforehand to want it to happen. I really don't think its just a matter of some kind of National "pride" not to see Russia defeated as he appears to moot: its having now seen the west go all out to destroy the Russian economy...its about watching the west flying Boris in to deliberately scupper near-concluded peace negotiations...Its about watching them place the entire available NATO arsenal in Ukrainian hands...to kill Russians. It's about being aware thanks to the open admissions of Merkel and Hollande that the Minsk agreements were a western fraud to lull Russia into a sense of false security whilst they tooled up their Nazi-loving proxy. Whatever the western loving arse-kissing business class think, ordinary Russians have come to conclude; and rightly so, that the reason de etre of NATO's continued existence was and continues to be the destruction of Russia. -That is why they will not countenance defeat.
