Assemble: Saturday 14th October 2023, 12pm @ BBC, Portland Place, London, W1A 1AA – Marching to Whitehall
Join us on Saturday 14 October for a national demonstration in London as we march in solidarity with Palestine and to demand Israel end its occupation of Palestinian land and apartheid rule over the Palestinian people.
Organised by: Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, Stop the War Coalition, Muslim Association of Britain, Palestinian Forum in Britain, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
I've been on a lot of them for Palestine, some big ones some more focussed, and organised a small one.
Truth is, in my opinion, they work as a means to let off steam and to show one another there's support there, both of which are good things.
But as far as changing public opinion goes, they just don't work. Unreported - even the really huge ones - so unseen by 99% of people they have no impact.
The targeted ones outside BBC (and Fraudian) offices have more chance of being effective.
If marching was useless why would the French government ban it?
Obviously they fear public opinion being expressed in such a manner. They realise the power of marches and marchers. Strange that our enemies should appreciate this power while we, the people, don't.
Incidentally, your comment is similar to that of the loathesome Germaine Greer on discovering after the huge Iraq war march that the war went ahead anyway. But as Chomsky points out the huge size of that march deterred a subsequent attack on Iran thus giving Iran time to prepare themselves and hence deter any attack. Today's march could be just as important. Iran is always the target.
Why do you place so much importance on the mainstream media? The government and media love people like you. You seem to rely on them for validation. It wasn't reported so it didn't happen. Let's give up.
Are the millions of people marching following Friday prayer to be dismissed as idiots wasting their time simply because the BBC won't report the marches?
Today's march has taken on huge importance what with the French ban on all Palestinian marches and attempts over here to stop us displaying Palestinian flags.
Labour et al. will be watching closely to see the size of the march today to gauge the strength of public opinion that might impact on them come election time. There are boundary changes in London that may cause many long held Labour seats to become Tory. Starmer is shit scared with the position he has chosen. Ferrari knew that when he put him on the spot in that LBC interview.
Incidentally, Chomsky was asked why he continues his activism when the mainstream media won't report him. He said I do it so I can sleep at night and look at myself in the mirror the following morning.
He also said "Do not expect quick change, change comes slowly and incrementally, and we need to be hypervigilant to maintain those gains." And the struggle is long.
No doubt he would say it's activists, like today's marchers, who have prevented countries like Venezuela being invaded.
Edmund Burke said, "No greater mistake was made than by those who thought because they could only do a little they would do nothing".
What do you hope to gain by writing such a post, Mark? Why would you seek to diminish the size and hence, the effectiveness, of the march? You want to stay at home writing emails? Grand. I've far more important things to do.
I'm off to stick that Palestinian flag up their jumper!
Feck 'em. NON PASARAN!
