An article in the Independent, quote political analyst James Kanagasooriam on this matter, the first monumental sandcastle was Boris Johnson's "red wall".
of course he's right ,but perhaps for rather shallow reasons. There won't be one "next big wave", but there's a whole tsunami of waves building up off the shores of the British Isles, global warming, overpopulation, immigration, the decaying economy and mountainous borrowing, , the fraying society and gross inequality, the decaying politics, the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the decaying of the US, and the arising of a multipolar world that Starmer and Labour in their imperialistic support of NATO etc, have yet to understand. And more importantly that the whole of the citizenry of the UK has yet to understand, and remain totally unprepared for.
Indeed the sandcastle will not last long.

It's hard to avoid the fact that most of my life 30-40% of the population of the UK have been incurably stupid or stark raving mad.
If they weren't there already, then the media would make sure they were certifiable before the vote.
-That all it takes to win an election granting a coterie of scumbags unrestricted powers to loot the public sphere...and did they ever.
The latest wheeze signed up to by them all is of course onshore-offshoring: Those "Special economic zones" and " Chartered Cities"...where the writ of UK law will hold no sway and entire swathes of the country will revert to mini princedoms under a CEO with their own minimal tax regimes dodgy employment rules and gangster economics.
-I'm pretty convinced worse is to come and the 40% of arseholes whom we live beside & who got us into this mess will vote for that too.

Well, we're are supposed to be adults and sentient. Underneath all else though we're supposed also to be humane and concerned, ie, moral beings. Too much of the moral neglect, perhaps?

The electorate are the 100% of people who vote plus the abstainers. That it takes less than 50% of the votes of everyone to form a government is the point, FPTP guarantees minority rule. What you should be looking at is why people don't vote the way you want. I do but am always pointing out that the biggest voting bloc is the abstainers.The last working-class hero in England.

Except they aren't a "voting block" because they don't vote. Governments lovem mind...the fewer punters to convince the better...and it goes out it's way to encourage them...as the envelopes that came through my letterbox this morning underline, telling me I now need photo ID to vote...because of non existent polling station fraud...so that will add some more poorer people to the "non-voting block".
Did you ever look to see what happens when the mass of potential non voters are actually made to vote btw? Try Belgium or Australia.

The left had been fatally compromised by its failure since the crisis of legitimacy of the Liarbour Partei which began in the late 60s. With that ball and chain, all lefty initiatives have failed because of the failure to smash Liarbour. GG is making an effort but still only within the confines of parliamentary politics. Maybe I'm too naive or too ready to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I don't feel like I can blame ordinary people for voting tory (or voting labour for that matter as a supposed lesser-of-two-evils). It seems too simple to reach for the dismissive insults, stupid, greedy, racist, insane, evil etc. and I prefer to look for alternative explanations. One I remember came up in an episode of Renegade Inc back in 2019, where in a discussion about the housing crisis campaigner Kate Swade made the point that voters' singular focus on property values was given its power by the context where social safety nets had been taken away and there was precious little else that people could rely on in old age or for other unavoidable costs:

It made me think that right to buy had set off a long term co-dependent relationship between the tory party and voters they had bought off by allowing them access to the 'property owning democracy'. With all their eggs in this one basket and the continued undermining of economic security and other state welfare provisions it has morphed from a Stockholm syndrome (voters buying into the ideology of their captors in the hope that they will get special treatment and a few crumbs) into a kind of suicide pact where they're all locked into the property bubble and see only disaster outside of it, probably correctly. This was especially clear during the 2015 and 2017 elections where the tories managed to win both times despite barely bothering to come up with any campaign promises, manifesto or wider vision. It's now just an unspoken assumption that the tories will take care of the property owners and protect them against all possible threats. I expect that only the bursting of this bubble and the ensuing chaos will shake tory voters out of their stupor and possibly enable saner govt policies in the future. Giving him credit for a change, Corbyn already came pretty close with the policies of the 2015 manifesto, indicating broad public support for some form of mild state socialism despite decades of indoctrination in TINA thatcherite market fundamentalism.
