Now it's another sexual assault story but they are trying to push links between Epstein and Trump (although in this story they seem tenuous and it's being written to exaggerate them). Depending on how much play this gets, they might use it as a justification for a high female voter turnout if they need to put their thumb on the scales.

A former model who says she met Donald Trump through the late sexual abuser Jeffrey Epstein has accused the former president of groping and sexually touching her in an incident in Trump Tower in 1993, in what she believed was a “twisted game” between the two men.

Stacey Williams, who worked as a professional model in the 1990s, said she first met Trump in 1992 at a Christmas party after being introduced to him by Epstein, who she believed was a good friend of the then New York real estate developer. Williams said Epstein was interested in her and the two casually dated for a period of a few months.

“It became very clear then that he and Donald were really, really good friends and spent a lot of time together,” Williams said.

The alleged groping occurred some months later, in the late winter or early spring of 1993, when Epstein suggested during a walk they were on that he and Williams stop by to visit Trump at Trump Tower. Epstein was later convicted on sex offenses and killed himself in prison in 2019.

Moments after they arrived, she alleges, Trump greeted Williams, pulled her toward him and started groping her. She said he put his hands “all over my breasts” as well as her waist and her buttocks. She said she froze because she was “deeply confused” about what was happening. At the same time, she said she believed she saw the two men smiling at each other.

It's very weak sauce and the timing is all too obvious but all they need are things they can point to that they can claim affected the vote; whether they actually did or not is irrelevant.

I still think Harris is down and they know it because the "race too tight to call" type of stories are all over the place.

What a wonderful choice they have for "leader of the free world".

Early voting (which they used to decry as corrupt) seems very popular with the repubs this time round and they've broken records for numbers.

I expect it will be milked as a super-close contest whatever is going on so that when they finally decided on the winner, it looks like the process was much more rigorous.

When it's so close, it's so much easier to nudge the scales and not get caught of course. It will be interesting to see what transpires at least, even if the end result is going to be massively dispiriting.

As in the past when it was important that Hillary didn't win, it's important that Harris doesn't win, even when the alternative is nearly as unpalatable. She's the establishment candidate and should lose for that, just as the out vote needed to win here because remain was the establishment vote (I'm still laughing).

The Democrats set out to supplant the Republicans at the turn of the millennium, that's why Dem candidates stopped supporting the 8th Amendment, the Clinton monsters doing what they could to get a human being boiled alive during their election campaign.

The plutocrats who support Trump are obviously plutocrats but more upstarts who want in than the hereditary plutos who already are. Given a choice, Harris is the boss class (establishment) candidate, they are not interchangeable. If Trump wins they will have to lump it which they don't want. I wouldn't breed from either of them.

Not sure that it’s weak sauce when this behaviour by Trump has been reported by many unconnected women. Everyone has heard it before so I don’t see that it will sway votes.

I didn't mean to diminish the disgustingness of his behaviour or the veracity of her claims although I can see that I did in a way. I meant, as you pointed out, that it is not a bombshell as far as people have heard it before and not been swayed.

My idea is that they only need something they can point to that they can claim increased voter turnout among a certain segment of the population if they need to nudge the scales in a certain direction.

I'm not ancient but I can remember in my lifetime when any one of these scandals would have ended a political career most of the time, let alone this litany of miscreancy. It's amazing that it just doesn't seem to matter anymore.

As the formal institutions of government evolve into inanity, the people in them cease to matter. Congress became one of the dignified parts of the US constitution after 1945, the presidency has gone the same way. If the US political system can continue under the rule of Biden, a dead bloke, the real ruling occurs elsewhere.

It does amaze me that everyone and his brother has seen what a state Biden is in and concluded he is unfit to run and yet they haven't joined those very close together dots and asked well he's clearly not fit to be president either so WHO is making all the decisions?

I mean in the U.S. generally. Obviously the media have all the filters operating to prevent this kind of analysis of the system but you would think the question would be getting asked more often and more widely but apparently not.

Women are not stupid. If the me-too movement taught us (or at least insisted) that the majority of women on the planet have been groped, then women are probably capable of deducing that the majority of men have been gropers at some point. Therefore, this simply not so much of a critical distinguishing factor any more in the choice of political candidates. Especially when other factors on the political landscape are being hyped up the wazoo.
