I got to "muscular” center...and by that time was glad when the paywall slowly manifested below and Johnathan's writing faded out...all without even getting to the topic of ex army chimp Rory and what a splendid fellow with hidden talents he must surely be...
Re: Jonathan "Three Pilgers" Freedland's latest piece of tosh, this time re Rory Stewart
"Rory" is another one that's somehow turned into a centrist cult figure for the main-stream fed who think he's some sort of whistle-blowing dissident rather than the same old establishment careerist who's transitioning into podcasting/punditry.
The number of people I've heard talk about him like he's Jonathon Cook or Ellsberg or something is ridiculous....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
Besties with arch war criminal Campbell too...that tells me all I need to know about "Rory" (nm)
At least he's an interesting man, he can reflect and he can write. I've read his book Politics on the Edge, it's a good read, and has a wry take on politics and on himself. It's amusing and horrifying (in that it confirms all one's most jaundiced opinions on politics) Yes, he's a more "conventional" Tory as of yore, Burkean probably. He's no socialist, but has the patrician concern for his fellow human beings of the old fashioned Tory. He's accomplished quite a lot in his life, at home and overseas, speaks numerous languages and likes walking, I have none of his talents, but I do like walking. That's a plus in my book. He's basically a decent man, whose politics most people posting here will disagree with, as I do. It's the greatest shame that his fellow Tories are now so right wing that a talented and humane man like him will be beaten by a bombast like and incompetent buffoon like Johnson, and tell me, would he have been worse than Starmer? Is he what the country needs right now, of course not, but I can't think of a politician who is the person.
When I saw this thread, I remembered our past exchanges on Stewart and wondered to myself if you might contribute in the same vein as before so I thought I might as well reiterate my feelings about the man as a down right liar and war monger.
My old post from August:
Stewart is right up there with the worst the tories ever offered, but with the help of the media, he is one of those who has managed a complete character rehabilitation along with a silence about what he really stands for. Anyone in any doubt should take a look at his voting record while in Parliament and ditch any of the romantic notions about sleeping under hedges and walking, Dick Wittington style, to Penrith.
Lest we forget the real Rory Stewart, a supporter of US controlled Trident nuclear missiles on British soil, well, he never met a war he didn't like or vote for, from bombing Afghanistan and Syria, to the hypocritical no-fly zone in Libya and of course, the decimation of Iraq, where he played his part in the Coalition Provisional Authority who oversaw their corrupt puppet regime after the illegal invasion. Maybe as damning as anything however, is that he is now best buddies with that war criminal Alastair Campbell, yes, he of the infamous "dodgy dossier" and whose lies led to over a million dead Iraqis at the time and god knows how many since. "Ye shall know them by their friends"! Then there is Stewart's outspoken criticism of Corbyn as he often referred to the "horrifying Jew-hate in Corbyn’s Labour". That's just a lie as anyone who has paid the slightest attention to that debacle knows only too well. Goes without saying he is a staunch supporter of the genocidal, squatter state of Israel and all that "right to exist and defend itself" hasbara bollox.
A couple of other highlights from his parliamentary career:
Voted against the promotion of Human Rights and Equality. Votes that helped further the privatisation of the NHS and other industries. Voted to restrict legal aid. Voted against restrictions on the blood sucking gambling industry. Voted for tuition fees. Voted for reduction of corporation tax.
I find it extremely difficult to have respect or time for any individual who joins the Tory party.
It has no morals as it is essentially a vehicle to make the already wealthy wealthier at the expense of the poor and furthermore to wage war and murder around the world for mere pecuniary gain.
It has no principles as the billions thieved from the public purse during the Covid crisis pointed out starkly.
And it has no philosophy aside from that remarked upon by Kenneth Galbraith:
"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."
In chosing to join such an organisation they TELL you what they are. Why should you doubt them? Why pretend there is something respectable in that chosen identity?
There is a romanticised form of conservatism which asserts that it upholds and preserves societal values and relationships against the amoral and instrumentalising mechanisms of naked capitalism.
If such a thing ever existed, it is clear conservatism long since sold out to capitalism.
All that remains are futile attempts to hold what is left of 'society' together by slapping on Union Jack sticking plaster.
As anyone can see from the following, Stewart is an absolute, provable, copper-bottomed gobshite, and the fact that an actual long-term denizen of this board is apparently allowing him to reinvent himself simply proves that humanity is too stupid to survive...
One of them walked at night with a hammer in his pocket, the other preferred the moors (healthy and bracing). Lot to be said for keen walkers. Very character building, so they say.
Did his tail pop out? What's The Story, Morning Rory? (nm)
