Needless to say they are the reason.

Just to note that he is innocent *at least* until proven guilty in a court of law.

Also, if it were illegal (and punishable) to make false accusations, then the ability to do so with impunity would not be the ultimate escalation dominance of our time in all matters personal. I know there is another side to this equation too, but the above definitely does occur and is also under-stated as an issue.

Finally, having working class roots in the UK, and having already shown them his vulnerabilities, I am sure does not exactly help him in what has been essentially a long-running fight with the British establishment.

As for his alt-right turn: Its an entirely rational decision: I am sure he also knows that the feminists of the left will simply offer him up on a silver platter to the British state. Sympathetic to feminism or not, the Assange experience was a salutory lesson in that regard: A man of the left (Assange), remains faithful to the left, and after a whiff of sex all except a small posse of left and right wing libertarian stalwarts simply walk away. I am quite sure Brand was not going to repeat that mistake.

I don't even like the guy, but yea. Twenty year old allegations can't be anything much more than "He said... She said.." stuff...which is why the law has been on a fishing expedition to get around this by using "similar fact evidence" ("evidence relating to misconduct other than that with which the accused is charged, but which may be seen as rendering it more likely that the accused committed that offence") and the "Moorov doctrine" ( "...a mechanism which applies where a person is accused of two or more separate offences, connected in time and circumstances. In such a case, where each of the offences charged is spoken to by a single credible witness, that evidence may corroborate, and be corroborated by, the other single witnesses, so as to enable the conviction of the accused on all the charges."

-Legally this is a pretty dodgy approach. Innocent or guilty its obvious the establishment wants to nail him.

All over the front pages of the papers in the supermarket today: https://www.frontpages.com/uk-newspapers/ Headlines all variations of 'rape charges', 'sexual assault', '4 women'. Trial by media as usual means his name will be tarnished forever and the prospects of a fair trial are strongly diminished. Might be the best possible outcome to have charges aired out in court rather than just hanging in the air as vague accusations. Still, even if he is able to prove his innocence, which is unlikely after all this time, it won't salvage his reputation. Which is the point. (Of course, if there is conclusive evidence against him he should be held accountable.)
