Two examples from Radio 4. No furore, seemingly...

I tend to find the 'comedy' on Radio 4 -- or 'Radio glo'al', as it is now -- to be pitiful, and I avoid it wherever possible.

In the last couple of weeks, though, there's been a radio on in the room that I can't smash -- and on two occasions I've heard the actual word 'shit' said in an early evening comedy show.

Yet there's been no furore of the 'Whatever happened to our sacred Broadcasting Standards?' sort.

Has anyone else noticed this? I confess that I am rather shocked. Not by the vulgarity so much as the naked fucking *desperation*: it's pretty clear that a deliberate policy decision has been made to allow this.

It's not just the terrible output Radio 4 Extra esp. seems to love redredging the illegal outflow of the past to contibute to the current odour...just a dearth of creativity..

I clock on Radio 3 in the morning to read the ceefax date and time as I have to set the clock on my laptop each time I switch it on. Even this, the last example of quality, is spewing adverts.

It starts at midnight day month 2009 so I have to reset it. I think it is computer senility.

Yes, it would. The CMOS battery provides a small current to the BIOS clock when computer is off.

Since your CMOS battery is flat, the BIOS clock stops working after the computer is powered off.

You should just set your clock to use NTP:

Windows will do so weekly (apparently), so you'll need to manually sync on a daily basis.
