RIP Bill Oddie.

Now I distinctly remember Oddie on a show years back now, could have swore it was an Andrew Neil show at a dinner time, where he went off topic (wildlife etc) and he ended up talking about the injustice with the Israeli/Palestine thing.
I remember the conversation being shut down quickly...I know I did not dream this and Oddie was always a bit of a maverick in tv interviews.
Anyway, spent the best part of a hour doing a deep dive on the interwebs to find the source of my memory and can't find fuck all...apart from he made a trip to Israel around 2000 to do a bird watching docu.

I remember this distinctly, not making it up.

The Goodies always struck me as the dregs left over from Cambridge Footlights who were propelled purely on the momentum of natural oxbridge entitlement, as the Cambridge footlights background faded into the reality of just not being very intrinsically funny, especially when played at normal speed.

Some people, e.g. Peter Cook, Spike Milligan and Ronnie Barker just had funny bones. Intrinsically. Milligan was treated like total shit, leading to three nervous breakdowns. A genius.

Bill Oddie was a very nice guy though, the wikipedia page describes his mental depression and green party membership (no connection between the two :-)

but I remember reading this story somewhere (maybe a thread on "Famous people you met (and they were maybe twatish)".

Someone saw Bill Oddie and approached him and asked "Are you Bill Oddie?" to which he replied "Not today I'm not" to which the spurned fan replied, "Oh, that's good because I think he's cunt"

Not that I think he was just a story that stuck in my mind.
