Please forgive my lag times, I'm moving slow. Our week was in the 90's until Thursday/Friday when it was supposed to get ridiculously hot, and it did, 107 and 111. It's amazing how good 90's can look! We've had some chilly nights and mornings, but now the nights are warming back up a bit, more in line with usual Sept. weather.
It will probably be in the 90's next week, or a little cooler, with reasonable nights. But, today and tonight we have a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. I really would like a bit of rain, but not the lightning. We still have 1,000's of acres burning in N. California from the last lightning.
It's been alarming how many people have been getting covid the past few weeks, and how sick they've been getting. It's reminding me of the beginning of it all. Ds has a neighbor who just tested positive with his wife, a friend's 1/2 brother has it, etc. And, someone that we've known for over 20 years, when he dated Dd, got it a little earlier, at the end of spring. He ended up in the hospital for 3 months - 2 months on a ventilator, and another month unable to sit up. He has to be careful of strenuous activity still.
So please, whatever precautions you originally took to not get exposed, take them again. The guy who ended up in the hospital was a lot younger than any of us, and I don't know of any health issues that he had to begin with. Pretty scary stuff!
Apparently, nursery school has a picture day, just like regular grade school, because Thyri is having her picture taken at school next Tuesday. I hope that they come out well!
We had a nice anniversary, despite everything. We had the burritos that I'd made and pre-frozen, thank goodness! And, for dessert, I just had a spoonful of that vanilla Toonie Moonie, which suited me just fine.
Actually, aside from the burritos, having some meat again, has really been doing me well. I feel better in many ways - injuries aside, and I think that it's helping my anemia. I just don't do well without red meat, and buffalo, while not containing a lot of fat and cholesterol, does have a lot of good stuff in it, such as extra iron.
To help that even more, I bought a few lemons. Having vitamin C with iron sources of food, increases your uptake. It makes it more bio-available. Win-win.
This morning I heard my road alarm and looked up. There was no car, so we looked more closely for an animal or person. Suddenly, we saw a pair of animals running down the road. We aren't sure, but it may have been 2 red foxes, which we don't see here. If Ds comes over tomorrow, I will review the tape and see if that's really what they were.
And, speaking of wildlife, last night we were getting ready for bed and had the last light on. Dh was going to turn it off when he saw something flying near it. I thought that it might be a moth of something. So, Dh did what he usually does, and caught it in a cupped hand to let it go out the front door. As soon as he caught it, he yelled: Ow!
Apparently, whatever it was stung or bit him. He couldn't catch/swat it after that. and finally it dipped low, and Krypto made a jaw clack. We haven't seen the bug since, I think my bee/fly snapping dog may have gotten it. Dh thinks that it was a wasp that got in just before dark.
My organic inspector is doing something different this year. She was trying to get together with us for an inspection, by date. Then, she called yesterday, and said that she doesn't need any of us to be available, that she'd come out alone. This will be a first time in our 32 years of being certified that it's ever been done this way.
It's not that I don't trust her, well alright, I don't really, so I'm going to check with the organization on Monday to make sure that this will fly, and find out what paperwork they want. This inspector *pretty much* knows her job, but she still makes mistakes about what is and isn't needed, and why, so I'll feel better double checking. This will happen next Thursday, on the 21st.
Hira used me to hide behind last week. I'm flattered that she feels that I'm a safe haven, but really, we need to find an alternative to her getting up in my chair with me. She's small - compared to Krypto, but not small as a dog in general. Dh was swatting flies outside, and that upset her, so she climbed into my chair with me, standing the whole time.
I have to admit, though, if I say her name, she comes like a shot. She doesn't hesitate at all, which is nice.
Well, my time typing is limited, so I'm going to make my other posts. How was your week?
