well........ blacks beach, whakaki, east clive area produce big fish. this is where marks point system comes into place............. the places where gurnard and co get caught in good numbers on a general basis are not ussally the place to target big snapper! for example while we are all sitting at mahanga over the first 4 feild weekend catching points( gurnard, kahawai, the odd snapper) whakaki would be the place to be if you wanted to catch a horse!! to be honest the only reason i didnt want to target them is because the gurnard points are to valuable to miss out on. this is why mark wants to change the points so we target big snapper instead of racking up good gurnard numbers! BUT HAY i injoy catch em ...........getting off topic a bit here

nick though out the season at differant times and conditions there is every opertunity to target big fish, for example if i really wanted a king fish i would hit snapper rock or flat rock!! chance's are i would get 1 ( in feb-march) but its not worth it because everyone else will have 5 lemons 5 kahawai snapper and gurnard!! and all ill have to show for is a kingie. most places witch are great for the big fish, there isnt a hell of alot of action from other species and different fishing methods are in place.

but yeah to be a little more specific

    kingies- feb- march
    lemons- feb
    snapper-sept-oct-mar-apr
    trev-march-apr-.........winter
    sharks!!!!!- late feb-march-apr
    moki-jan and winter
    just to name a few

the point is there is always a big fish around to target. if you need any other info send me an email
