Law of averages, and listening through the Grapevine relating to the possibility of landing that BIG fish on a fieldweekend. I wouldnt have picked me and Shane having that great catch at Mahanga in September, because i hadnt heard of that before. Again Chads bang on with the best times to get larger fish of a particular species, but what i have observed is that rarely any two years following are the same. I cant say that on the 16th of September im going to travel to Mahanga, and catch several munta sized Horses in that location on roughly that date. As we all no there are variables, weather, sea tempreatures, features on the beaches(New channels/holes/guts formed), shifting of shellfish beds, all of which factor into, the fish drawing, or potential catching of from a particular beach at a particular time. We can only estimate this given results over a period of years and you begin to see a general trend, and this is where we come up with the information Chad has shared in relation to the Hawkesbay fishery. I tell ya one thing tho, i much prefer to go to a beach and have confidence in that location producing, and coming home with a feed, rather than, battling it out with the elements, and having a rabbits paw hanging round my neck and hoping for the faintest twitch, praying that the next bite is going to instantly turn into a 20lb plus Snapper. I do it on the odd occasion, but find it a little menotinous at times. If you have confidence in a location, then stick to your guns, try and learn how to fish it more effectively, in different conditions, methods, times youll be surprised.
