To venture out to an available beach for a fish is a right in my view. Its a legacy handed down by our forefathers through tradition , law and nature. Those who emigrated to this country and wanted to cast off the shackles of privilege and give everyone the same rights and freedoms, while those who were already here who saw the right to fish as integral to survival and spiritual wellbeing. Yes there will always be rules as with rights come responsibilities but at the end of day no one can or should be able to stop you from fishing.
I refuse to look on fishing as a privilege for one reason. When you begin to do this you open up a gap for those in power to remove a right and turn it into a privilege for their own ends. They don’t have to justify removal of a privilege because you were lucky to have it in the first place. But they do have to justify the removal of a right. And so they should. Rights give power to the people. Privileges give power to the privileged.
Ponder on this fellow fisho’s Theres a line in a movie called V for Vendetta where the lead actor says ”People should be never afraid of politicians. Politicians should be afraid of the people. I wonder how many politicians are afraid of you? So there.......
