I think my biggest problem when learning to use a scope was knowing what a 'normal' signal was like. As said, you can read too much into it, due to normal interference, or even simple things like a poor earth on your probe. It is also very easy to set the scope to autoranging, then panic when the scale jumps to a larger reading, or think you've missed something.I remember using my low amp clamp to test the coil amps on a vectra & having to make up a sheild to get rid of RFI from the HT. By the way, the amps clamps from PICO are really good & inexpensive, I also use them on a multimeter for a quick test of glow plug amps draw etc. I have condemned a few fuel pumps for a missing winding on the motor using the low amps clamp & scope, even though the fuel pressure was OK. regards Steve
