Nevada has proven to be good, New Mexico as well, UNLV obvious history, GCU is new comer on the block, UTEP and Wyoming aren't too shabby either and have had up years recently.
The other thing is those arenas bring in people, where Big West struggles for attendance. Last year:
New Mexico- 13k
Nevada- 8.5k
GCU- 7k
UNLV- 5.5k (really down, Hockey taking off pulled a lot of their occasional attendees)
UTEP- 4.7k
Wyoming 4k
SJSU- 2.3k
Air Force- 1.8k
They will have to gradually build their athletic budget, and then are in position for a natural transition to Mountain West if/when they desire or are forced to.
That's a head scratcher. When I first saw the post I thought football would be the driver behind joining the MWC. So, M/W basketball, WVB, MBB, W softball, water polo will travel to Laramie, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs in lieu of an all California conference? Other than MBB, I think the BWC is stronger than the MWC.
Davis has football. I wonder why they won't join the MW for football??

The Mountain West is finalizing an expansion deal to add UC Davis to the conference, sources tell
@YahooSports
. The deal would be for all sports except football.
